Abstract: The paper presents data on the chemical composition of the vermiculite ore of the Qaraozek deposit in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, on the minerals occurring in it and on the various materials that can be obtained from vermiculite. It was established that the mineralogical and chemical composition of the Tebinbulaq vermiculite of Qaraozek district is dominated by silicon oxide and by magnesium and iron oxides, while the accompanying minerals - apatite, calcium, magnesite, asbestos-5; quartz-38.1, chlorite and pyrite - account for 2.1 %. The initial state of the mineral was studied by microscopic, mass-spectroscopic, X-ray phase and IR-spectroscopic methods of analysis. The vermiculite was found to be oval in shape and soft, to contain no toxic substances and to be suitable for use in many fields, from heat-resistant linings to agriculture, hydroponics and the chemical industry.
