Making flood inundation mapping (FIM) work for multiple users : Understanding the value and function of FIM for decision support
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Flood Inundation Mapping (FIM) is an important tool for communicating flood risk by showing flood extents, but these products require end-users to be able to understand, access, and act on the information shared. Responding to demand for event-driven FIM from emergency and water resource managers, the National Water Center (NWC), in coordination with River Forecast Centers (RFCs) and Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs), issues high-resolution FIM products through an interactive mapping platform.
