Effects of a Hydrolyzed Collagen Complex-Based Ampoule on Procollagen Type I and Elastin Production

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Hydrolyzed collagen (HC) has been widely utilized in biomaterials, pharmaceuticals, functional foods, and cosmetics because of its high biocompatibility and potential skin benefits. However, studies evaluating the efficacy of HC-based cosmetic formulations for improving skin elasticity remain limited. This study aimed to formulate an elasticity-improving ampoule containing an HC complex and to evaluate its safety, and elasticity-enhancing efficacy. The safety of the formulated elasticity-improving ampoule (EI ampoule) was evaluated using an MTT assay in dermal fibroblasts and a cumulative irritation test (CIT) in adult female participants. Efficacy was examined by measuring procollagen type I and elastin expression using ELISA at different concentrations. Both the vehicle and EI ampoule maintained over 80% cell viability at all tested concentrations, demonstrating no cytotoxicity. The cumulative irritation test (CIT) showed negative skin reactions in all participants, supporting the dermatological safety of the EI ampoule. Efficacy evaluation further revealed concentration dependent increases in procollagen type I and elastin expression, with pronounced effects at specific concentration ranges. These findings indicate that the HC complex-based EI ampoule is safe under the experimental conditions used in this study and may contribute to the improvement of skin elasticity. Therefore, it represents a potential cosmetic formulation for skin elasticity enhancement.
