Abstract: This article addresses the concept of visual literacy in fine art, a concept that has existed for a considerable time. For example, classical and medieval theories of memory and learning devoted great attention to how the visual format of words and images affected the arrangement of information in the mind. During the Enlightenment, print and manuscript technologies were used to cultivate the sensibilities of the rising middle class in ways beneficial to it; in addition to learning to read visual materials, many schoolchildren learned to write and draw in graphic patterns, which made their writing more convenient and easier to access. Attention is focused on developing visual literacy and spiritual awareness in pupils of grades 5-7 through fine art: an integrative approach.
