Abstract: This article elucidates the theoretical and practical foundations of composing a still life, its distinctive rules and principles, and its significance in the educational process. Issues of properly arranging a still life, selecting and positioning objects, and ensuring the harmony of colour and form are analysed in detail. The article also examines the step-by-step processes of depicting a still life, determining light-and-shadow relationships, and techniques of detailing and completion. Typical mistakes made by students and ways of eliminating them are likewise indicated. This study serves as an important methodological foundation for forming still life painting skills.
