Abstract: This article provides an in-depth scientific and pedagogical analysis of the role and significance of creative assignments in developing students' independent thinking in painting classes. In the course of the study, the essence of the concept of independent thinking, its intrinsic connection with creative activity, and the innovative methods applied in painting classes on the basis of contemporary pedagogical approaches are elucidated. It is substantiated that the effective organisation of creative assignments broadens students' scope of imagination, shapes their aesthetic taste, and develops their independent decision-making skills. The findings of the article serve as an important methodological foundation for improving the process of art education.
