Abstract: How is the Iran War influencing Russia's foreign policy? This article argues that the conflict strengthens Moscow's short‐term strategic position while reinforcing the structural limits of Russian power. The analysis traces these effects across Russia's wartime economy, its position in Ukraine and the Middle East, and its relations with China and Iran. Higher oil prices and reduced Western focus on the Ukraine conflict provide Moscow with immediate economic and operational advantages. However, these benefits remain contingent on instability beyond its control and are not sufficient to overcome enduring constraints on its regional influence or global position. The Iran War complicates Russia's balancing strategy in the Middle East and exposes differing interests within its trilateral alignment with Beijing and Tehran, particularly regarding energy security and regional stability. Therefore, rather than marking a strategic breakthrough for Moscow, the conflict illustrates how external crises can temporarily enhance Russian leverage without altering the underlying vulnerabilities of its foreign policy.
