Responsible Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in the Training of Future Psychologists
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The rapid spread of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is transforming the modern system of higher education and necessitating a reconsideration of approaches to the professional training of future specialists. This issue is particularly relevant to the training of psychologists, as their professional activity is based on critical thinking, evidence-based practice, ethical responsibility, confidentiality, and the ability to make independent professional decisions.Generative artificial intelligence can be useful in the educational activities of future psychologists, including explaining complex concepts, generating ideas, structuring information, preparing learning materials, modelling professional situations, and providing feedback. At the same time, its use is associated with the risks of academic dishonesty, uncritical acceptance of generated information, cognitive offloading, and dependence on technology. The study by Bloxham, Newham, Ryding, and Hadlington showed that 54% of the surveyed psychology students used GenAI to support their learning, primarily ChatGPT.The most common purposes were explaining concepts and generating ideas. At the same time, the authors point to a tension between the educational value of the technology and the risks of dependence and violations of academic integrity [3].Therefore, the key issue is not the complete prohibition of GenAI in the educational process but the identification of principles for its responsible, critical, and pedagogically appropriate use.The aim of the study is to substantiate the principles of responsible use of generative artificial intelligence in the system of professional training of future psychologists and to identify pedagogical approaches to its integration into the educational process, taking into account its benefits, risks, and the requirements of academic integrity. The research materials included contemporary English-language scientific publications addressing the use of GenAI in higher and psychological education [1][2][3][4].An analysis of the scientific literature provides grounds for considering GenAI not as a substitute for the professional training of future psychologists but as a tool for supporting it.Responsible use requires preserving the leading role of students in developing their own knowledge, skills, and professional judgement. The study by Richmond and Nicholls is particularly illustrative. In this study, 363 second-year psychology students used ChatGPT to produce an initial draft of a science
