Chi-square goodness-of-fit tests for qualitative ornamental traits in F1 and F2 generations of Catharanthus roseus (vinca) crosses
Year: 2026
Type: dataset
Abstract: This dataset contains the data generated and analyzed in the study “Artificial hybridization among Vinca accessions provide high segregation in important ornamental traits.” The dataset includes phenotypic characterization of F₁ and F₂ populations of Catharanthus roseus obtained through five controlled crosses among contrasting ornamental genotypes. The data cover qualitative traits including plant growth habit, leaf density, petal arrangement, corolla color, and receptacle color, evaluated according to UPOV descriptors and RHS Colour Chart standards. The dataset also includes observed phenotypic frequencies, expected Mendelian segregation ratios, chi-square goodness-of-fit tests, degrees of freedom, p-values, and segregation classifications for the evaluated traits. These data support the assessment of phenotypic variability and inheritance patterns of ornamental traits and may be useful for future C. roseus breeding and genetic studies.
