Picture the fear: Imagery-based fear conditioning investigating the late positive potential
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: Using a novel imagery-based fear conditioning paradigm by Mueller et al. (2019) the present research aims to elucidate whether participants will display differential fear acquisition and extinction learning from aversive mental images using a multifaceted set of measures (i.e., self-report ratings, the late positive potential, skin conductance responses). Further we will investigate the moderating role of task-specific vividness of the unconditioned stimulus (US), daily use of mental imagery, and multisensory vividness of imagery on the acquisition of the fear response during imagery-based fear acquisition.
