Assessing and Improving the Effectiveness of Data and Code Sharing Policies in Dutch Research Performing Organizations
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Open Science practices are gaining ground, but their adoption is not as widespread as hoped. While Open Access publishing is common, practices that increase research transparency, such as data and code sharing, vary greatly. We explore why institutional Open Science policies often fail to translate into meaningful real-world change. Focusing on Dutch Research Performing Organizations (RPOs), we examine how specific policy features influence researchers’ behavior regarding sharing data and code. By combining policy analysis, behavioral research, and stakeholder collaboration, the project co-creates more impactful and context-sensitive policies, and helps RPOs measure, promote, and improve sharing practices in their respective organisations.
