Abstract: Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the massive open online course (MOOC) approaches of higher education institutions in Türkiye.Method: This study employed document analysis as the research method. Data were collected from the official websites of 205 universities in Türkiye, the websites of identified MOOC platforms, and the 2024 institutional self-evaluation reports. The data were analyzed using content analysis, and the findings are presented through various charts and tables for clear visualization. Results: The findings reveal that only a limited number of universities offer MOOC platforms. This indicates that MOOC adoption and implementation in Türkiye are still in the early stages of development. There are substantial differences in the number of courses available across MOOC platforms. In this regard, Bilgeİş stands out as the platform with the largest content, offering 220 courses. Analyses of the most recent course publication dates suggest that some platforms are encountering challenges related to sustainability. Regarding language, the majority of courses are provided in Turkish, reflecting a predominantly local focus. Moreover, on nearly all platforms, learners receive certificates upon successful completion of the courses. Credit recognition for MOOCs at universities remains quite limited. According to the findings, currently only five universities in Türkiye grant academic credit for these courses. Conclusion and Implications: In conclusion, this study provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of MOOC initiatives at universities in Türkiye. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on the adoption and implementation of MOOCs in Turkish higher education and provides actionable insights for university administrators, policymakers, and educators.
