Outcomes of Surgical Versus Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair or Replacement in Patients With Myocardial Infarction and Concomitant Mitral Regurgitation: A Retrospective Analysis of Real-World Data
Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Myocardial infarction (MI) remains a major cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States, and up to half of patients with MI develop mitral regurgitation (MR).1 MR after MI reflects disruption of the left ventricle and mitral apparatus and is associated with increased risks of heart failure, rehospitalization, and mortality.2,3 Surgical mitral valve repair or replacement has traditionally been the mainstay of treatment for severe post-MI MR; however, operative risk is often high due to ventricular dysfunction, coronary disease burden, and comorbidities.
