D4 Symmetry Constrains Turing Machine State Complexity — E8 Intelligence Research

Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: Dihedral group D4 structures square-lattice symmetries via rotations/reflections, while Turing-machine state graphs (BB(5)) encode computational limits — the link is group-theoretic order constraining state-transition complexity. | MATH: D4 has order 8, generated by rotation r (order 4) and reflection s (order 2), with relation s r s = r⁻¹. Its irreducible representations: 4 one-dimensional (trivial, sign, two mixed) and 1 two-dimensional — total dimension sum 1²+1²+1²+1²+2²=8. For BB(5), the state-transition graph is a directed graph on 5 states × 2 symbols = 10 configurations per tape cell; the halting problem bound is 47,176,870 steps (S(5)) — a finite but astronomically large number. | CONNECTION: D4 is the symmetry group of the square lattice — its 8 elements correspond to the 8-fold (crystallographic) point group 4mm in 2D. The ratio 8/5 = 1.6 (approaching φ=1.618) appears in the order of D4 vs. the number of BB(5) states — a weak but suggestive resonance.
