Arousal and sensorimotor adjustments in a sustained olfactory attention task

Year: 2025
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Achieving optimal performance in specific tasks requires the adjustment of arousal and physiological states to align behavior with attentional demands. Here, we present data from freely moving Long-Evans rats trained on a sustained-attention odor detection task that requires prolonged, randomized nosepoke holding times and active sensorimotor sampling through sniffing. Using behavioral analysis along with simultaneous whole-body plethysmography, wireless LFP recordings, on-the-fly pupillometry and facial videography, our framework explores how internal, behavioral, and neurophysiological states, and their interactions, shape decision-making dynamics during sustained olfactory attention.
