Year: 2026
Type: software
Abstract: PyMFCAD is a Python package for rapid design and prototyping of 3D-printed microfluidic devices. It provides a component-based workflow for building reusable parts, assembling devices, routing connections, visualizing results, and generating printer-ready slices.Version Information: 0.4.2 -> 0.5.0 (2026-09-03) Replaced slicer/print file generation with new workflow utilizing Workspaces. For more details see slicing section of documentation. Breaking Changes Component's no longer accept position parameter. Use translate() instead. (#55) Membrane Settings no longer directly accepts exposure parameters (such as exposure times), now accepts ExposureSettings object (#59) Devices have been completely removed. Printer resolution is now handled by slicer (#48) Slicer has been renamed PrintFileGenerator (#62) Slicer.make_print_file() has been renamed .run() Slicer settings object has been removed. PrintFileGenerator now directly accepts parameters. (#56) PrintFileGen now accepts either a single component or a Workspace (advanced component placement) Printer class now need default positional settings Printer class now accepts stitching settings LightEngine class now needs default exposure settings New Features Added scale function to shape (#52) Added single parameter shape resize (#53) Added libraries for printers and resins (#58) PrintFileGen now handles embedded and stitching internally Bug Fixes Removed unnessicary init saving args (#35) Regional settings not impacting subcomponents (#43) Channel rounding in fractional routing broken (#63) Subcomponets of different layer sizes not working (#64) Resolved confusion about device sizes needing to be specific (#3, #65) Fixed failing test cases (#67) Performance Improvements Reduced slicing time Known Issues: Large number of TPMS structures cause rendering and slicing to crash (memory overflow) Massive numbers of components (many thousands) also cause crashing (memory overflow)
