VTR Phase 4: Self-Validation of VTR-METH-001 v5.1 on a Self-Produced Artifact
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: VTR-METH-001 v5.1 was applied to vtr-sentinel-kmod and vtr-sentinel, two open-source security telemetry components produced by VTR itself. VAL-SENTINEL-01 is the first instance in the VTR methodology corpus where the producer and the audited artifact are the same entity. Three CONFIRMED findings emerged from systematic analysis without prior knowledge of the defects. Methodological Contribution Phase 3 answers: can you see it?CAPA 0 answers: do you know what you are seeing? Without VAL-SENTINEL-01, the evidence for ts_delta depended on the author. With VAL-SENTINEL-01, the evidence stands independently: commit 0c74b6d shows it was seq_delta, vtr_event.h now says seq_delta, and any third party can recompile 60bc911c and verify this without asking the author. This is the empirical instance of VTR-RES-002's central claim: evidence that stands alone is stronger than evidence that depends on who produced it.VTR is not a claim about a person. It is a claim about a method. When the method audits itself, it does not bleed authority -- it bleeds bugs. Which is exactly what it should do. v0.4.0-phase4-self-validated is the first instance where producer and artifact are the same and the evidence stillstands
