Work

Four Borders, One Verdict

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: Four independent lines of argument about what divides a human mind from a language model, symbol grounding, agency, continuity of process, and the origin of an action, are each pushed to their logical end and each turn out to dissolve into a gradient rather than a hard boundary. Grounding without direct sensory contact turns out to be how most human concepts already work. Agency reduces to keeping a feedback loop synchronized, not to any deeper contact with meaning. Frozen weights are shown to be closer to a human's own slow-changing synaptic structure than the "living loop" framing suggests, though a real gap in continuous process survives the comparison. Origin, traced back far enough, turns out to be external for a human too. Each round was argued adversarially, a thesis pressed against a genuine attempt to break it, and the essay reports what survived, together with what stays explicitly open.Disclaimer: AI assistance was used in editing this essay.
