Endovascular treatment of chronic aortic occlusion

Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Chronic infrarenal aortic occlusion is an advanced manifestation of atherosclerotic disease associated with significant morbidity. Open surgical reconstruction remains the historical gold standard. Endovascular recanalization has emerged as a viable alternative in selected patients, although the technical success rate remains low and the risk of complications high. Herein is presented a case of an 81-year-old gentleman with symptomatic, chronic, infrarenal aortic occlusion that was successfully treated with balloon angioplasty and implantation of a covered balloon expandable stent.
