The Uncomputable Halting Probability: Algorithmic Randomness Beyond Geometric Ratios — E8 Intelligence Research

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: Chaitin's omega (Ω) is a real number encoding the halting probability of a universal Turing machine — algorithmically random, uncomputable, and irreducible to any finite axiomatic system. | MATH: Ω = Σ_{p halts} 2^{-|p|}, where p ranges over self-delimiting programs; Ω is Martin-Löf random (bits are incompressible), and its first N bits are unprovable within any consistent formal system of complexity < N. | CONNECTION: No direct geometric ratio (0.382, 0.618, etc.) appears; however, the self-delimiting prefix code structure mirrors a binary tree (Cantor space) whose branching ratios are dyadic (1/2, 1/4, 1/8...), a discrete analogue of base-2 rather than base-60. The halting set's measure-theoretic structure is a fractal-like subset of [0,1] with Hausdorff dimension 1 but algorithmic dimension 0 — a lattice of uncomputable points. | DEPTH: 9 — This is a profound limitative result: it shows that mathematical truth is not fully axiomatizable, and that knowledge itself has an irr Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
