Kinetic Analysis of Informational Disorder

Abstract: Integrity practice already answers a first-order question: does a designated record match a baseline at time t? Checksums, file-integrity monitors, and attested manifests are good at that question. Operators of live data systems also face a second question those tools do not, by themselves, pose: is mismatch in that record accelerating in a way that shrinks the time still available to restore inspectable state on the original terms? This working paper states Causal Informational Physics (CIP) as an applied research program for operator-controlled data systems: directories, stream segments, and attested bundles. Informational state is treated as a time-indexed object. Mismatch level m is distinguished from mismatch acceleration a, the second time difference of m. The identity is definitional. It is the same distinction dynamics already makes between position, velocity, and acceleration, applied to inspectable records. It is not a new physical law. A production estimator of m used in Fors33 implementations is withheld (patent). Readers can still compute a from any well-defined public m; Section 5 uses a path-wise digest fraction. No empirical table is reported. Fors33, Inc. develops software consistent with a subset of the first-order constraints discussed here. That correspondence is described in Section 8 and is not a result of this paper.
