Invariant Theory: Reductive Groups and Solvability in Competition Problems — E8 Intelligence Research
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: Invariant theory provides the algebraic framework for determining when competition problems are solvable via conserved quantities under group actions, with reductive vs. non-reductive groups as the critical dichotomy. | MATH: Reductive group action → finitely generated invariant ring (Hilbert's 14th problem solved affirmatively); non-reductive → infinite generation possible. Key objects: invariant ring \(R^G = \{f \in R : g\cdot f = f, \forall g \in G\}\), categorical quotient \(\pi: X \to X//G = \text{Spec}(R^G)\). New Euler conserved quantities: \(\int_{\Omega} \omega \cdot \nabla \times \omega \, d^3x\) (helicity) and topological degree \(\deg(\hat{u}) = \frac{1}{4\pi}\int_{\partial\Omega} \hat{u} \cdot (\nabla \times \hat{u})\, dS\) — these are invariant under the volume-preserving diffeomorphism group. | CONNECTION: The reductive/non-reductive split mirrors the golden ratio's self-similarity — reductive groups (like \(GL_n\)) have complete reducibility, analogous to the F Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
