Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Background: The primary objective was to compare voice analysis using voice analysis software findings in patients withbenign vocal cord lesions following microlaryngeal surgery and the secondary objective was to compare pre and postoperativevoice in patients with benign vocal cord lesions using acoustic analysis and VR-QOL score. Materials andMethods: This prospective observational study was conducted among 45 patients with benign vocal cord lesions whounderwent microlaryngeal surgical excision during the period of 18 months from January 2023 to June 2024 in theDepartment of Otorhinolaryngology, Government Medical College Thiruvananthapuram. Videostroboscopy, voice analysisand VR-QOL scoring were performed pre and post operatively and results compared. Reports were analysed using SPSSsoftware version 25.0. Results: 61-70 years was most common age group affected in our study with a male preponderance. Most common lesions found was vocal cord polyp followed by vocal cord cyst. The middle and anterior 1/3rd of vocal cordwas most common site in majority of cases. Post operatively there was improvement in stroboscopic parameters likesymmetry, amplitude, mucosal wave, and glottic closure. Voice analysis parameters like MPD, fundamental frequency, intensity, jitter, shimmer and signal to noise ratio also showed improvement with a statistically significant p value and therewas statistically significant decrease in VR-QOL scores (<0.05) following microlaryngeal surgery of benign vocal cordlesions. Conclusion: Significant improvement noticed in various parameters in voice analysis including fundamentalfrequency, jitter, shimmer, SNR following microlaryngeal excision of benign vocal cord lesions. Vocal cord morphology onvideostroboscopy also showed improvement. These indicate better outcome of microlaryngeal surgery for benign vocal cordlesions. Significant decrease in VR-QOL scores after surgery indicate improvement in patient’s perception of the voiceproblem
