Abstract: Background: Gastritis includes a wide spectrum of the conditions identified by and having a characteristic feature ofinflammation in the lining of the stomach with histopathology being a gold-standard in assessing and confirming the gastritiswith one of the most prevalent organisms identified being H. pylori. The present study was aimed to assess thehistopathological correlates and prevalence of H pylori in gastritis cases proved on biopsy to evaluate the distinctivemicroscopic features and frequency associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. Materials and Methods: The presentstudy assessed 180 cases where gastric mucosal biopsies samples attained using endoscopy from subjects diagnosed withgastritis were histopathologically assessed and were graded following updated Sydney system. Data gathered werestatistically analyzed. Results: The study results showed that among 180 biopsy samples assessed in the study, there were104 cases and samples identified as cases of chronic active gastritis. The most commonly affected region being the antrumwhich was identified in 36.6% subjects. Conclusion: The present study concludes that standardized classification andmicroscopic analysis in gastritis cases are vital for accurate diagnosis and efficacious treatment planning. The presence of H.pylori has significant influence on severity and persistence of gastritis and can contribute to serious outcomes as cancer.
