Stochastic Optoacoustic Numerical Breast Phantoms and Simulated OAT Measurement Data Using a Finite-Size Transducer Model

Year: 2026
Type: dataset
Abstract: This dataset is a subset of a companion dataset to the manuscript: Seonyeong Park, Gangwon Jeong, Umberto Villa, Mark A. Anastasio, "A Virtual Imaging Framework for Three-Dimensional Quantitative Optoacoustic Tomography Using Stochastic Numerical Breast Phantoms," Photoacoustics 100850 (2026) https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pacs.2026.100850 The dataset contains 20 sets of three-dimensional (3D) numerical breast phantoms (NBPs) for use in virtual imaging studies of optoacoustic tomography (OAT), together with the corresponding simulated multiwavelength optical fluence distributions, induced initial pressure distributions, and OAT measurement data. Each set represents a distinct breast anatomy with Fitzpatrick skin tone 1 and contains one of the following conditions: no lesion; a malignant lesion composed of viable tumor cells only; a malignant lesion comprising viable tumor cells, a necrotic core, and peripheral angiogenesis; a simple cyst; or a fibroadenoma. The NBPs exhibit anatomically realistic breast shapes. The OAT measurement data were simulated with the transducer elements modeled as finite-size apertures. More detailed information is provided in the accompanying README.txt file.
