Clinical Update: NRTX-1001 GABAergic Interneuron Cell Therapy for Drug-Resistant Focal Epilepsy
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Neurona Therapeutics is investigating NRTX-1001 cell therapy in two open-label, multicenter Phase 1/2 trials for drug-resistant unilateral (NCT05135091) and bilateral (NCT06422923) mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE). GABAergic cortical interneurons from the medial ganglionic eminence (MGE) are promising therapeutic targets in developing novel therapeutics for drug-resistant epilepsy. We developed a cortical MGE-type GABAergic interneuron cell therapy candidate, NRTX-1001, derived from human pluripotent stem cells for single-dose intra- hippocampal administration.
