Acetoacetates Derived From Vegetable Oils: A Platform for Tailor‐Made Vinylogous Urethane Foams
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT The increasing demand for flexible and rigid polyurethane foams has intensified the need for sustainable end‐of‐life management strategies. In this study, a strategy combining vinylogous urethane chemistry with oleochemistry to develop non‐isocyanate, bio‐based polymer foams with enhanced recyclability is employed. This approach presents a universal platform for fabrication of recyclable foams with tunable mechanical properties, ranging from flexible, elastic foams to rigid, stiff materials, owing to the versatile chemistry of vinylogous urethane networks. Moreover, the ability to control gelling and foaming kinetics leads to the fabrication of non‐isocyanate foams with beneficial low‐density (60–70 kg m −3 ) that can compete with typical conventional polyurethane foams. These findings indicate that the vinylogous urethane foams derived from renewable vegetable oils provide a promising strategy for addressing end‐of‐life concerns associated with conventional polyurethane foam applications.
