Chromospheric and Transition Region Responses of Activities at the Base of Coronal Plumes

Abstract: We present the identification of the cospatial and cotemporal small scale jets—sometimes also named as jetlets—at the base of the coronal hole plume associated with chromospheric and transition region (TR) flows. We identified 19 jets with coordinated observations recorded on 2016 March 19, using the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) and the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph. Our analysis of the Si iv 1393.7 Å line suggests blueshifts mostly in the range of 10–33 km s −1 , but a few less than −10 km s −1 , while analysis of cospatial Mg ii h and k lines shows both blueshifts and redshifts in the range of –9 to 17 km s −1 . We observed highly asymmetric, enhanced intensity in the Si iv line during these events. The upflows observed in TR through Si iv are strongly correlated with chromospheric downflows observed in Mg ii . We interpret these results as a signature of interchange reconnections creating bidirectional flows—giving rise to upflows (downflows) in the TR (chromosphere).
