Parental Involvement in Student’s Academic Performance in Elementary School: A Phenomenological Study

Year: 2026
Type: dissertation
Abstract: Parental involvement plays a critical role in shaping a child’s academic success and overall development. This phenomenological qualitative study investigates parental perceptions of their involvement in their children’s academic journey. Utilizing in-depth interviews, data were collected from ten parents whose children are enrolled at Looc Pt. Linao Elementary School in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental. The study addresses three central research questions: the lived experiences of parental engagement in their child’s academic performance, the coping mechanisms employed to sustain such involvement, and the educational management insights gleaned from parental participation. Analysis of the data revealed that parents maintain supportive communication with their children despite facing socioeconomic challenges. Coping strategies identified include effective time management, creating a supportive home environment, and active home-school collaboration. Furthermore, findings emphasize the significance of collaborative engagement and the implementation of inclusive programs, highlighting the necessity for shared responsibility between families and educational institutions to foster holistic student development. This study contributes valuable insights into the complexities of parental involvement and offers implications for enhancing educational practices through strengthened family-school partnerships.
