Busy Beaver Bound: BB(5) Solved, Higher-Order Growth Tied to Arithmetic Hierarchy — E8 Intelligence Research

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: The Busy Beaver function BB(n) — the maximum steps a halting n-state Turing machine can run — has been computationally resolved for n=5 (BB(5) = 47,176,870), and a new paper extends BB to higher-order oracle machines, linking its growth to the arithmetical hierarchy and decidability of number-theoretic statements. | MATH: BB(5) = 47,176,870 (exact, proven via the Busy Beaver Challenge); BB(n) is non-computable (grows faster than any computable function); for higher-order: BB^α(n) defined via Turing oracle machines of order α — the paper proves relations between decidability of Π_k-formulas and BB^k(n) growth rates, showing BB^k(n) is not computable by any machine with oracle of order < k. | CONNECTION: No direct geometric ratio (0.382, 0.618, 1.618) appears. However, the structure of the arithmetical hierarchy (Σ_k, Π_k) mirrors the nested lattice of root systems (A_k, B_k, C_k, D_k) in crystallographic symmetry — each level k adds a new dimension of undecidability, analogous Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK.
