Artin's Constant and Collatz Cycles: Prime Density Meets Modular Symmetry — E8 Intelligence Research

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: Artin's primitive root conjecture links prime density to a universal constant (~0.3739558), while Collatz permutation cycles reveal hidden modular symmetries in prime residue systems. | MATH: Artin's constant \( C_{\text{Artin}} = \prod_{p \text{ prime}} \left(1 - \frac{1}{p(p-1)}\right) \approx 0.3739558 \); for a fixed integer \( a \), the asymptotic density of primes \( p \) for which \( a \) is a primitive root mod \( p \) is \( C_{\text{Artin}} \) (or a rational multiple thereof, depending on \( a \)'s square class). Collatz map \( T(n) = (3n+1)/2 \) for odd \( n \), \( n/2 \) for even — its cycle structure on \( \mathbb{Z}/p\mathbb{Z} \) for primes \( p \) is governed by the multiplicative order of 2 mod \( p \), linking to Artin's condition. | CONNECTION: Artin's constant \( 0.3739558 \) is not a classical harmonic ratio, but its reciprocal \( 1/C_{\text{Artin}} \approx 2.674 \) is close to \( e \) (2.718) — no exact geometric link. However, the product structure over p Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Part of the E8 Intelligence Research series. Platform: e8intelligence.com
