Validity and reliability of the Turkish adaptation of the diagnostic interview for anxiety, mood, and OCD and related neuropsychiatric disorders: child and adolescent version (DIAMOND-KID)

Type: article
Abstract: The Diagnostic Interview for Anxiety, Mood, and OCD and Related Neuropsychiatric Disorders: Child and Adolescent Version (DIAMOND-KID) is a DSM-5-based semi-structured diagnostic interview for the assessment of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents aged 6–18 years. Despite its broad diagnostic coverage, evidence regarding the psychometric properties of the DIAMOND-KID across different cultural and linguistic contexts remains limited. This study aimed to examine the validity and reliability of the Turkish adaptation of the DIAMOND-KID in a clinical sample. A total of 195 children and adolescents aged 6–18 years were administered the DIAMOND-KID and an independent clinical interview. Interrater and test–retest reliability analyses were conducted in subsamples of 22 and 51 participants, respectively. Participants and their parents/caregivers completed self-report measures assessing symptoms related to the disorders evaluated within the DIAMOND-KID. Diagnostic agreement was evaluated using Cohen’s kappa coefficient. Agreement between the DIAMOND-KID and clinical interview diagnoses, evaluated across diagnostic categories with sufficient case numbers, ranged from good to excellent (κ = 0.61–0.93). Interrater reliability ranged from fair to excellent, while test–retest reliability ranged from good to excellent (κ = 0.70–1.00). Effect sizes obtained from comparisons of self-report measures related to current diagnoses were generally large. The findings support the validity and reliability of the Turkish adaptation of the DIAMOND-KID for assessing a broad spectrum of psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents aged 6–18 years in Türkiye.
