Conflict Resolution Styles as Moderators of the Relationship Between Perspective Taking and the Fundamental Attribution Error After Conflict
Year: 2026
Type: other
Abstract: The scientific literature on perspective taking (PT) strongly suggests that it reduces dispositional judgements, such as the fundamental attribution error (FAE). The current study aims to examine the extent to which this relationship exists specifically after an interpersonal task conflict. The literature has examined the aforementioned relationship in hypothetical conflicts as well as perspective taking’s correlates among romantic relationship conflicts, but not after in-person conflicts with strangers. Additionally, only a limited amount of research on the above topics have been examined under a conflict resolution style lens. Therefore, the current study will examine the relationship between PT and the FAE after in-person conflict, and how conflict resolution styles may moderate that relationship.
