Cislunar Cargo Return by Distributed Laser-Ablative Trajectory Shaping (BRAKE) and Passive Atmospheric Capture (BOLT ODP): A Systems Engineering and Flight Mechanics Design Study

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: This record is a conceptual design study. It is not the Acta Astronautica notes. Those notes throw a passive capsule from instantaneous Earth–Moon L4 or L5 on a direct coast. The vacuum note, dataset 10.5281/zenodo.22803200, uses one 1.32–1.52 km/s impulse and one Earth-orbit pulse at 100,000 km. A silent station leaves true periapsis at 6,856–7,863 km. A correctly signed 8–26 m/s pulse puts periapsis on a vacuum-model geoid in 4.0–5.6 days at 0.82–1.11 km/s. The coasts are kept Moon-clear. They do not include a lunar flyby. The load note, dataset 10.5281/zenodo.22969419, attaches the atmosphere only at geocentric radius 6,500.137 km on that same commit coast. Lunar-orbit BRAKE satellites in this design study are for other arrivals that use the Moon.
