3D-printed attachment for optimized MR imaging of mice with an optical cranial window

Abstract: In vivo MR imaging was performed using a 9.4 T horizontal preclinical MRI scanner with a 20 cm bore (BioSpec 94/20, Bruker BioSpin, Ettlingen, Germany), equipped with a 600 mT/m gradient insert. A 72 mm linearly polarized resonator was used for RF transmission, with dedicated mouse brain receiver coils for signal reception. MRI acquisitions were performed using ParaVision PV360 (v1.3, Bruker BioSpin). T2-weighted brain images were acquired using a 2D RARE sequence. For mice with an optical cranial window, a custom 3D-printed spacer was designed to elevate the surface coil above the optical cranial window, allowing the coil to be positioned without contacting the window. The attachment was designed using Autodesk Inventor 2023 and 3D-printed in Bordeaux PLA using a Prusa i3 MK3S printer.
