Optimization of Si/SiGe Heterostructures for Large and Robust Valley Splitting in Spin Qubits

Year: 2026
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The typically small and highly variable valley splitting is a key limitation for the scalability of silicon-germanium (SiGe) spin qubits. We present a free-shape optimization approach to engineer the Ge-concentration profile in a SiGe quantum well such that it provides a deterministic enhancement of the valley splitting with simultaneously reduced device-to-device variance. Our model is based on exact multi-valley envelope function theory augmented by a non-local empirical pseudopotential model and a random potential model describing alloy disorder.
