Extracting Hamiltonian Parameters for Flopping Mode Qubits from Finite Element Method Quantum Device Simulations

Abstract: As quantum computers develop, their qubit counts will increase but so too will the distances between these qubits.Qubit-to-qubit interactions limited to the nanoscale will no longer be sufficient; we must have macroscopic interaction. It has been demonstrated that coplanar waveguides can couple distant "flopping mode qubits" separated by up to several millimetres.Such structures can be simulated via FEM-based simulators such as QTCAD.However, the complexity of these devices hinders simulation speed. To remedy this, we can instead use a high-level Hamiltonian model. In this work, we compare these approaches for modelling a flopping-mode qubit. In eigenenergy vs detuning results, we demonstrate a sufficiently good correspondence between both models without any fitting parameters.
