Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Social media has become an important part of young adults’ daily lives, providing opportunities for communication, entertainment, and social interaction. However, excessive use may lead to social media addiction and increase the Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), which can influence relationships and family life. Family functioning is important because healthy families provide communication, support, emotional connection, and cooperation among members. This study examined the relationship between social media addiction, FoMO, and family functioning among young adults. The study addressed the growing concern that excessive social media use and the constant fear of missing online activities may negatively affect young adults’ interaction and relationships with their families. A quantitative research design was used, and data were collected through a structured questionnaire from selected young adults. The findings showed significant relationships among the study variables. The study concluded that healthy social media use and awareness of FoMO are important for promoting positive family functioning among young adults.
