A low-noise high-gain broadband inductor-less inverter-based transimpedance amplifier in 22-nm FDSOI CMOS process

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: This paper presents the design and measurement results of a novel inductor-less transimpedance amplifier (TIA) with active feedback implemented in 22-nm FDSOI CMOS technology. The TIA with active feedback comprises an inverter-based, low-noise, narrow-band feedback TIA, followed by a post amplifier unit. To enhance the bandwidth, active feedback is incorporated in the post amplifier unit. Measurement results show the inductor-less TIA with active feedback achieves the transimpedance gain of $$61 dB\Omega$$ , a bandwidth of 40 GHz , and input referred current noise density of $$16 pA/\sqrt{Hz}$$ at mid-band. It occupies only $$0.017 mm^2$$ and consumes 17 mW at 0.8 and $$1-V$$ supply voltages.
