Artificial intelligence-driven analysis of social media texts from cancer patients and caregivers: A scoping review of methodological evolution, validation, and clinical translation
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: Cancer patients and caregivers increasingly utilize social media and online health communities to share their experiences, generating vast amounts of valuable textual data. Artificial intelligence (AI) and computational text analysis methods offer novel approaches to uncover insights from these data. This scoping review, guided by the PRISMA-ScR checklist, aims to systematically map how AI-driven text analysis methods have been applied to social media texts generated by cancer patients and caregivers. Specifically, it seeks to investigate the methodological evolution over time, evaluate the validation and effectiveness of these methods, and explore how the resulting findings are translated into clinical, supportive care, service delivery, or policy practice.
