Abstract: 2.10. Diamond-Lattice Photonic Crystal: From Theory to DNA Origami RealizationThe diamond lattice photonic crystal concept proposed in this work has received striking experimental validation from an unexpected direction. In May 2024, Posnjak et al. (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München) published in Science a three-dimensional diamond-lattice photonic crystal self-assembled from DNA origami tetrapods, with a periodicity of 170 nm [S1]. The structure was subsequently coated with TiO₂ via atomic layer deposition at the Walter Schottky Institute (TUM), yielding a tunable photonic bandgap in the near-UV. This work confirms two key claims of our architecture: (1) the diamond lattice provides the widest complete photonic bandgap among Bravais lattices, and (2) TiO₂ is a suitable high-index material for bandgap engineering.
