Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationships between adolescents' digital addiction risk and the digital parenting awareness and mental health literacy of mothers and fathers. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted between February 2024 and June 2024 with 445 adolescent-parent triads, each consisting of one adolescent, one mother, and one father. The data collection tools included a Participant Information Form, the Digital Addiction Scale (DAS) for Youth, the Digital Parental Awareness Scale (DPAS), and the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS) Results: The mean total DAS score of adolescents was 24.04 ± 8.10. Significant differences were observed in patterns of digital device use among adolescents, mothers, and fathers. Mothers reported monitoring their children's digital device use more frequently than fathers. No significant associations were found between adolescents' DAS scores and parents' DPAS or MHLS scores. Mothers scored significantly higher than fathers on the beliefs-oriented MHLS subscale, whereas fathers scored significantly higher on the resource-oriented MHLS subscale. Conclusion: No significant associations were found between adolescents' digital addiction risk and parents' digital parenting awareness or mental health literacy.
