Standardising Epigenetic Data Analysis: A Prerequisite for Regulatory Uptake in Environmental Risk Assessment
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Recent advances in sequencing technologies have enabled the rapid generation of epigenomic datasets across ecotoxicologically relevant species. DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNAs are increasingly investigated as potential biomarkers for environmental monitoring and next-generation environmental risk assessment (NGERA). However, the limited availability of standardized bioinformatic workflows currently represents one of the largest barriers to reproducibility, comparability, and regulatory acceptance of epigenetic evidence.
