A atuação da fisioterapia na reabilitação de neonatos com lesão do plexo braquial pós-parto: revisão de literatura
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Introduction: Postpartum brachial plexus injury, also known as obstetric brachial palsy, consists of a traumatic injury to the nerve roots responsible for the motor and sensory innervation of the upper limb, which can cause functional limitations and impair the motor development of the neonate. In this context, physiotherapy plays an important role in functional recovery and prevention of complications. Objective: To analyze the role of physiotherapy in the rehabilitation of neonates with postpartum brachial plexus injury, highlighting the main therapeutic resources used and the benefits of early intervention. Methodology: This is a descriptive literature review, conducted through searches in the PubMed, SciELO, LILACS, Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. Articles published between 2020 and 2025 related to physiotherapy intervention in neonatal rehabilitation were selected. Results and Discussion: Six studies addressing different methods of physiotherapy intervention in obstetric brachial plexus palsy were included. The results demonstrated that resources such as passive mobilizations, muscle stretching, sensory stimulation, kinesiotherapy, muscle strengthening, proper positioning, and family guidance favor functional recovery, maintenance of range of motion, and prevention of deformities. Agreement was observed among the studies regarding the importance of early intervention for better clinical outcomes. Final Considerations: It is concluded that physiotherapy plays an essential role in the rehabilitation of neonates with postpartum brachial plexus injury, especially when initiated early and performed continuously and individually, contributing to functional improvement and quality of life.
