Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: This study analyzes educational value disorientation influenced by a culture of hedonism and Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) in the urbanizing community of Singosari, Malang Regency, and its impact on social relations among educators, students, and families from the perspective of Islamic sociology of education. This study employs a mixed-method approach (qualitative-quantitative descriptive survey design) involving 60 respondents (parents/guardians, educators/teachers, students, and community leaders) selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments include a 56-item 4-point Likert scale questionnaire (measuring 7 primary indicators) and 8 open-ended narrative questions (Q57–Q64), which were analyzed thematically and modeled using Structural Equation Modeling based on Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results indicate that the development of urban lifestyles and the commodification of social media significantly shift educational orientation from long-term character investment to short-term social status seeking (R² = 0.642). This condition is empirically proven to weaken family involvement in children's education and generate value conflicts among students. Islamic education is empirically proven to moderate and attenuate the negative effect of hedonistic culture on value disorientation (β = -0.242, p = 0.009). This study recommends a community-based religious educational collaboration model to mitigate the impact of value disorientation in urbanizing transitional societies.
