Towards Versatile and Field-Ready Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution Systems
Year: 2026
Type: conference-paper
Abstract: Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) is one of the most mature application of quantum principles to technological purposes. First proposed in 1984 by Bennett and Brassard, the last 40 years have seen many advancements, in particular in terms of laboratory and field-deployed demonstrations. Continuous-Variable QKD, which harvests encoding in the quadratures of light and coherent communication system, is arguably less mature than its Discrete-Variable (DV) counterpart, even though impressive demonstrations have been made in the past few years, along with the apparition of early commercial systems. In this work, we present advancement towards versatile and field-ready CV-QKD systems. This includes the demonstration of a versatile transmitter, approaching a CV-QKD transceiver, CV-QKD multiplexing in deployed networks, open source software for CV-QKD and certification against side-channel attacks. We demonstrate promising results for the near-future development of commercial systems compatible with existing classical networks, both in terms of architecture and existing communication.
