Evaluación de habilidades motoras en población infantil y juvenil con trastorno del espectro autista: una revisión sistemática
Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: Motor skills are fundamental to functional performance and school participation. In individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), reported motor impairments negatively affect development in educational, sports, and recreational contexts. This study aimed to identify the most commonly used tests for assessing motor skills in individuals with ASD aged 0 to 21 years. The review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. A search was conducted in the PubMed and Scopus databases using the terms “autism,” “ASD,” “motor assessments,” “fine motor skills,” and “gross motor skills.” The methodological quality of the included articles was assessed using an adapted version of the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS), adjusted to account for the heterogeneity of the observational study designs included. The findings indicate that the predominant instruments used for motor assessment in this population are the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2), the Movement Assessment Battery for Children (MABC-2), and the Test of Gross Motor Development (TGMD). The main limitation identified was the methodological heterogeneity of the studies, which hindered direct comparison of the results. Future research is encouraged to incorporate biomechanical analyses and motion sensors to strengthen objective assessment. Based on the findings of this review, the BOT-2, MABC-2, and TGMD were identified among the standardized instruments most frequently used in the studies analyzed for the assessment of motor skills in individuals with ASD.
