Impact of Nutritional Deficiencies on Immune System Development in Early Childhood

Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Adequate nutrition during early childhood is essential for optimal growth, development, and maturation of the immune system. Nutritional deficiencies, particularly of essential vitamins and minerals, can impair immune responses and increase susceptibility to infections. This study examines the impact of nutritional deficiencies on immune system development in early childhood, with a focus on micronutrients such as iron, zinc, vitamin A, vitamin D, and vitamin C. Evidence indicates that insufficient intake of these nutrients adversely affects both innate and adaptive immunity, leading to increased infection rates and delayed immune maturation. Early identification and correction of nutritional deficiencies are critical for supporting immune competence and improving child health outcomes. nbsp;
