Abstract: Introduction: Knowledge of lung function parameters in the outpatient population and associated factors is scarce in Cuba. Objective: To describe selected lung function parameters and to identify associated factors in children in Havana. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 903 children in Havana, 5 to 6 years old, from 2015 to 2016. ISAAC questionnaire was applied, including sociodemographic factors, prenatal, perinatal, environmental, lifestyle and anthropometric measurements. Forced spirometry was performed with a salbutamol reversibility test and FEV1, FVC and FEV1/FVC were recorded. Simple and multivariate linear regression, percentages, means and standard deviation with their confidence intervals were used (significant regression if p < 0.05). Results: FEV1 (77%), FVC (67.3%) and FEV1/FVC (59.3%) increased, with a higher rate in boys. The main associated factors were: prenatal history of anemia, maternal age < 20 or > 35 years, underweight or overweight, family history of asthma, helminthiasis, dengue and pneumonia, exposure to environmental tobacco smoke and air pollution. Conclusions: The differential parameters of children lung function in Havana do not differ from those in the rest of the world. Modifiable prenatal, nutritional and environmental factors are involved in lung function. Further studies are needed to further investigate the new associations identified.
