Abstract: DOI: https://doi.org/10.46296/gt.v8i16.0323 Abstract Introduction: the present study is based on artificial intelligence (AI) as a nursing tool that enhances the planning of the patient care time due to its ability to process real time data and support clinical decision making. Objective: Analyze the impact of the implementation of artificial intelligence on nursing, through its benefits, limitations and ethical challenges, with the aim of improving patient safety and care quality. Materials and methods: A systematic review of scientific articles publishes between 2020 and 2025, in Spanish and English. The articles were searched on scientific data bases such as PubMed, Dialnet, Scielo, and Google Scholar. The search was conducted based on convenience sampling according to the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results: AI strengths the clinical-nursing process reducing workload. It improves workflow management. Limitations: “Human-technology-machine” interaction, insufficient information available on reliability, data security concerns, limited familiarity with AI use, and financial limitations. Ethical challenges: responsible use of AI, equity and respect of patients privacy rights. Conclusions: AI aims to be an ally of nursing, balancing the direct care to enhance the safety and quality of the patient based on the activities and nursing tasks optimization. However, its use is not free of risks and challenges, such as change resistance based on loosing the human aspect of the characteristic care of nursing personnel, as well as the economic burden associated with its implementation. AI should be considered as a supporting tool of daily tasks, not as a replacement for the care provided. Keywords: Artificial Intelligence; nursing; quality; patient safety; care; ethics; challenges.
